Chinese tourism stocks surge, with more visa-free countries



On October 4, tourism-related stocks in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange continued their strong rise. By the end of trading, Trip.com had risen by 7%, China Duty Free Group was up 5.17%, while Hong Kong China Travel Service and Tongcheng Travel also saw gains of 4.46% and 2.16%, respectively. Since late September, driven by overall market trends and the National Day holiday effect, tourism-related stocks have been on a strong upward trajectory. Industry leaders Trip.com Group and Tongcheng Travel have seen their stock prices rise by more than 40% during this period.



Q4 China overseas group tours up 40% year-on-year

As the National Day holiday comes to an end, many Chinese travelers are planning trips for after the peak season. GZL, a subsidiary of Lingnan Group, has just launched all of its post-holiday overseas travel products. The number of tours departing before the end of October has increased by 40% year-on-year, with more than 50% of the tours being long-haul. The itineraries include seasonal autumn/spring and winter travel experiences, and the prices of post-holiday overseas tours have dropped by 10%-15% on average.



China trials visa-free policy for four countries

At a regular press conference held by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 30, spokesperson Lin Jian announced that China will trial a visa-free policy for citizens of Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Slovenia. Under this new policy, from October 15, 2024, to December 31, 2025, citizens of these four countries holding ordinary passports can enter China without a visa for business activities, tourism, family visits, or transits of up to 15 days. China has also called on these countries to provide more convenient visa arrangements for Chinese citizens traveling to their regions.



China becomes New South Wales’ third-Largest tourism source market

According to the latest data from Tourism Research Australia, over the past year ending June 2024, NSW experienced the largest increases nationwide in international visitor numbers, overnight stays, and tourist spending. China has emerged as one of the key source markets for the state's tourism economy, ranking as the third-largest in terms of total visitor numbers.

Air Serbia launches Belgrade-Guangzhou route

On September 30 at 18:41, Air Serbia’s flight JU988 landed at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, marking the official launch of the Belgrade-Guangzhou route. This is Air Serbia’s second direct flight to China, following the launch of the Belgrade-Tianjin route, further strengthening the ties between China and Serbia.
